INTRODUCTION

Line Dot Red

In modern democratic societies, the legislature performs three conventional functions of Representation, Law making and Overseeing responsibilities. As a legislator, my primary aim will be to effectively represent the good people of Owerri North and take part in controlling, through legislation, economic, social and political activities of Imo state. I will diligently be involved in scrutinizing the policies of the executive and provide the framework for the judiciary to operate. Your support for me will be the end of irresponsible governance witnessed in our state today, where the law makers are mere  ‘RUBBER STAMPS’.  I am a disciple of good governance, hence my aim to be elected would be focused on these bases.

PENSION

Line Dot Red

Advancing motions/bills for the elimination of the sufferings of our aged parents/pensioners in assessing their pensions/entitlements. It is a sacrilege that our parents, who during their productive lives, dedicated their lives to the service and growth of Imo state, now receive less than 40% of their monthly pensions quarterly. My first assignment if elected, is to get my fellow legislators, to stop the strenuous process of accessing these paltry sum, ensure they are paid their rightful pension and insist it comes regularly. God will see me through.

EDUCATION

Line Dot Red

Our Primary and especially, Post Primary schools are still using the old methods and moribund tools in teaching. Let me shock you a little. Spare some time and attend a Mathematics class on any topic in any of the Secondary Schools in Imo State (Owerri North).  If you attend the same class in a Secondary School in Abia State or Anambra State, you will see the need for an urgent re-training and motivation of our teachers here in Owerri North. The latest 2018 WAEC ranking of the 36 states saw Abia, Anambra and Edo States ranking 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, with Imo State coming 5th.

As a legislator, I will sponsor bills for the following:

  •  Employment of qualified teachers to at least man the sensitive subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science.
  • To motivate our teachers and introduce social services units for them, where they can leverage on certain facilities e.g.  Housing, Car Loans, Dependent Health Care Services, Etc.
  •  To ensure every teacher goes for training at least once a year. This training must be on each teacher’s subject. There must be training allowance attached to this program.
  • To attract teachers’ sabbatical leaves/programs with states and countries that are doing well academically.
  • To ensure that the students/pupils get the right textbooks and learning materials. The education board will be supervised to ensure the right things are done etc.

REVIVING THE MORIBUND FACILITIES

Line Dot Red

Getting the attention of the government in reviving the moribund facilities and under utilized human/material resources in Owerri North L.G.A. This is to  enhance job creation and basic industrialization in our L.G.A. Owerri North alone is the Landlord to the Cluster Market, the Alaba Market, the Timber Market, various Motor Parks, about 3 oil prospecting terminals (abandoned so far by chevron) etc. If these facilities are put to optimum use, Owerri North indigenes will have cause to smile again.

HEALTH

Line Dot Red

At present, The Naze Community Health Center is the only Government Health facility that has a resident doctor. I have investigated further and noticed that the community has an existing arrangement at ensuring their health center works. My question is, what are those in the Imo House of Assembly doing to reverse this ugly trend of non-functioning community centers?

If I am elected as the legislator representing Owerri North, I will start by inviting the President Generals and the Ezes to a parley on how to get qualified doctors in their various government health centers as soon as possible. This will be followed with a bill to the government to initiate the compulsory deployment of resident doctors to each community. A social trust fund can conveniently take care of the payment of these health workers.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Line Dot Red

I will personally introduce a profitable skill and acquisition programme to boost the chances of our youths in getting self employed. At the moment, my foreign I.T partners have agreed to partner with me on this. As I write, the I.T enhancement project has taken off in my campaign office and our youths will soon be engaged.
